Surveying is the art, science and technology of establishing the relative position of points at, above or below the earth's surface. The professional land surveyor applies the knowledge of surveying measurement, the legal principles of boundary location, the land planning and development concepts pertinent to the subdivision of land and property surveys and the design of land mapping and information systems.
The location and marking of property boundaries is exclusive responsibility of licensed Ontario Land Surveyors. It is critical that boundaries be determined and marked accurately so that it is clear where properties begin and end.
Without landowners knowing boundary locations, buildings could be on property lines, fences could be in the wrong place, compliance with zoning setbacks could become a problem, neighbours could build on the wrong side of the property line, safety problems could occur with construction over gas lines or other utility rights-of-way, and arguments and/or costly lawsuits may result from this action.
Clipsham Limited has an Ontario Land Surveyor on staff who is licensed to undertake boundary (cadastral) surveys and issue professional opinions by the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors, the governing body of professional land surveyors in Ontario.
Clipsham Limited has been providing land surveying services since 1954. Section 11 of the Surveyor's Act provides that only a licensed Ontario Land Surveyor may undertake cadastral (legal boundary) surveys in the province of Ontario. In addition to boundary surveys, Clipsham is qualified to provide a wide range of products legislated by the Surveyor's Act and other provincial legislation.
Professional Surveyors are available to protect the interests of families, businesses and organizations by providing services commonly required by lawyers, appraisers, municipalities, government agencies, mortgage companies, insurance companies, and banks. Their products and professional opinions are offered for:

Land surveying is a major part of geomatics, a developing science that has applications in all businesses and industries that use spatial data. It is fundamental to all the geoscience disciplines that use spatially related data. Professional Surveyors collect, interpret, and distribute information on a scale never before possible. The services and products of a professional surveyor are essential to the orderly development of communities, as they are responsible for producing accurate records of land transactions, construction and geographic information systems. Clipsham surveyors operate with a Certificate of Authorization issued by the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors which is a license to conduct a wide range of surveying activities in the province of Ontario.
